In order for me to design work that competes at the highest national standards, I have been tasked to discover work from winners. From this work I need to understand the level of creativity involved and the lengths to which winners go to to realise their ideas and communicate / present them.

To do this I will deconstruct the winners work by answering the following questions: Who has produced the work? Why are you interested in the chosen piece? What makes it a successful solution / what is it trying to communicate? What techniques are being employed?

D&AD New Blood Entry - Show Yourself

Designer

Origin

Title
The British Army
Show Yourself

Reflection
The piece is an awareness campaign with bold images & statements resulting in individuals stopping and thinking which pushes them to the call to action. I liked this idea because it is simplistic yet so effective, something this generation of design is creating which is what I aspire to do. Photographic skills are used to create the outcome aswell as powerful statements. Results are a set of poster designs & promotional video.

Portfolio Web Design

This competition submission is simplifying how one communicates and showcases their individual work in a professional yet creative manner through an online based management system. The submission popped for me because it combined my interest for web-design along with something currently in progress for me – Portfolio building CMS, Web-development, Structural design are all key to designing this. Results are Web, Mobile and online platform design templates for portfolios.

Title
Cover of ‘To Kill a Mocking Bird’
Show Yourself

Reflection
Communicates the racial prejudice that occurs. More specifically ‘Focusing on the symbolic contrast of black and white’. It’s so succesful because they utilise the negative space and the combination of the face and bird as one. I’m interested in this design because the illustration and creativity is something I aspire to achieve. Also the fluidity the design creates as an ensemble. Illustrative skillsets and handwritten typography are key techniques. The result being a front and backcover book design.

Title
Ocean Awareness

This competition submission is bringing awareness to the public via showcasing and symbolising the pollution thats currently happening in the oceans. The submission caught my attention because its similar to a brief in graphic design I was given last year and I didnt know about the competition – Now I do. Illustration and Art design are all key to designing this. The outcome become an illustration that can be moulded into a poster or a full awareness campaign. Designers work below.
